AUNTIE ANNE’S® FASTEST PRETZEL ROLLER IN WORLD ANNOUNCED
New Jersey Manager Rolls Pretzel in 3.5 seconds
LANCASTER, Pa. (Oct. 2, 2009) – In honor of National Pretzel Month, Auntie Anne’s, known for its freshly baked, hand-rolled soft pretzels, announced today the fastest pretzel roller within its worldwide system.
A pretzel rolling contest awarded Amanda Putney, a store manager from the Deptford, N.J., area, for rolling 42 pretzels in 2 minutes and 24 seconds, equaling approximately 3.5 seconds per pretzel. The standard rolling time per pretzel is 8 to 10 seconds.
At an Auntie Anne’s systemwide convention, recently held during the third week in September, Putney competed with 44 other professional pretzel rollers for the title of fastest Auntie Anne’s pretzel roller. Putney was first awarded the reigning title in 2005 when she clocked in with a time of 4 seconds per pretzel. Drawing on her 15 years of experience in rolling pretzels and working for franchisees Mel and Ginny Sickler, Putney was able to defend her title during a competition viewed by nearly 900 spectators. Putney was awarded $1,000 by Auntie Anne’s President and CEO, Samuel Beiler.
“Becoming the fastest Auntie Anne’s pretzel roller takes lots of practice, complete focus, proven techniques, and support from your team members,” Putney said. “I take my honor of Auntie Anne’s fastest pretzel roller very seriously and I must admit, I was a bit anxious during the process of defending my title. The overall process was fun and I am still savoring the win,” stated Putney, fastest pretzel roller champion and mother of two young children.
